We’ll always have Paris

Grand rendez-vous dédié aux pratiques contemporaines de l’image en mouvement, les Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin proposent un espace de découverte et de réflexion entre nouveau cinéma et art contemporain.

Un public nombreux et des professionnels du monde entier se retrouvent pour découvrir la programmation des qui réunit séances de projection, expositions et performances – des œuvres d’artistes et réalisateurs reconnus sur la scène internationale, aux côtés de jeunes artistes et de réalisateurs diffusés pour la première fois. Des débats et tables rondes en présence de curateurs invités, artistes et chercheurs, apportent une perspective supplémentaire sur la programmation et sont l’occasion d’interroger ces pratiques artistiques et leurs enjeux. La manifestation est une plate-forme unique en Europe où les artistes peuvent se rencontrer, échanger avec un large public, initier de nouveaux projets.

Les Rencontres Internationales rendent compte des spécificités et des convergences des pratiques artistiques entre nouveau cinéma et art contemporain, explorent les formes artistiques émergentes et leurs propos critiques, et permettent ce temps nécessaire où les points de vue se croisent et s’échangent.

Paris is not necessarily the first choice as the setting for a ghost story. The excessive romance of the French metropolis’ cultural symbols renders them simply unsuitable as backdrop for horror stories. But that’s not the case in Ella Raidel’s four-minute short film, which arose in the course of her extensive research project Of Haunted Spaces and refers to an upcoming feature film project. In We’ll always have Paris, the Eifel Tower, Champs-Élysées, magnificent fountains, and trimmed hedges stand as faux French in the hazy rain of Tianducheng.

Artiste :
Ella Raidel, Ph.D., is a filmmaker, artist and researcher. In her interdisciplinary works – films, videos, research and discourses – she focuses on the socio-cultural aspects of globalization, urbanization and the representation of images. Her hybrid practice is to create a discursive
space for filmmaking, art and research. In recent years, she has been concerned with China’s unprecedented growth and rapid urban changes,
in experimenting with new documentary modes, narrations and methods. Raidel’s works has participated in international biennials, exhibitions, conferences, and presented at numerous International film festivals,
among those International Film Festival Rotterdam, CPH:DOX Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival, DOK Leipzig, Hot Docs Canada, and
Chicago International Film Festival.
Since 2019 she is Asst. Professor at NTU Singapore.
